More Like a Bistro than Bar & Grill

Appropriately located at 545 N. Milwaukee Ave. in downtown Libertyville, Il 60048, is 545 North Bar & Grill. Don’t let the name fool you. 545 North is anything but your typical bar and grill. Offering a menu of international flavors with Chef Patrick Joyce’s unique twist, 545 North is a modern bistro in the heart of main street Libertyville.

545 North is typical to most businesses and restaurants in downtown Libertyville in it’s long and narrow space. When you enter the main entrance on the side, you find the space opens up in the front where the bar is located. Tables and the bar in the front have plenty of light and a view overlooking downtown Libertyville and Milwaukee Ave. Head toward to rear of the restaurant, you find an outdoor oasis, complete with a fireplace.

Both a lunch and dinner menu are available at 545 North. So, be sure to visit for lunch and then return to experience the atmosphere at night.

For a more casual dining experience, just across the street are Main Street Smokehouse and Morgan’s Bar & Grill.

Field of Dreams Becomes Reality for Lake County Fielders

The long awaited, and much talked about, moment finally arrived. Lake County experienced it’s first baseball game on Friday afternoon. The Lake County Fielders played in front of over 6,800 fans on Friday and even though the scoreboard showed a loss, it was a win for Lake County baseball fans.

The Lake County Fielders had their first 20 games scheduled on the road to allow for the new stadium to be built. But with a site change, stadium redesign and probably more politics than most of us want to know about, the Fielders needed to play the first series of “home” games in Kenosha at Carthage College. On Friday, all that was forgotten as the crowd showed up on a beautiful midsummer afternoon to watch a classic American past time at very affordable prices.

While the stadium isn’t complete, there is a field and dugouts. The lights are still being installed so games scheduled for 6pm or 7pm will be played at 4:45pm until they are installed later this month.

Today the Lake County Fielders will open a 3 game set with the Joliet Jackhammers at 1pm. All tickets are general admission and cost only $5. Here you can find directions to the Lake County Fielders stadium and parking information. And here is the complete Lake County Fielders July schedule.

One of my original post about the Lake County Fielders received some of the most opinionated comments I’ve ever received. I’m curious to see what people have to say now. Feel free to leave your comments and thoughts below. Have you been to Lake County Fielders Stadium yet? What did you think?

Give Us Your Blood

Today will mark the beginning of the Independence Day weekend, filled with plenty of parades, festivals and fireworks. As we enter the heart of summer, it’s important to remember that it’s also the time when area blood demand is at it’s highest and blood levels are low.

The Mundelein Fire Department and the Lake County Fire Chiefs Association are holding a Summer Blood Drive Challenge Friday, July 2, from 1pm until 7pm. The goal is to collect 100 units of blood. To make it a celebration, there will be a free barbecue and the Mundelein Best Buy will sponsor a “Best Buy Zone” with televisions, Wii and music!

This will be a special blood drive in memory of firefighter Brian Carey of Homewood Fire Department who died in the line of duty earlier this year. He was a Lifesource donor and all participants will receive a commemorative t-shirt in firefighter Carey’s honor.

Last weekend the McHenry Fire Department collected 112 units, so the challenge is on to collect even more today! Come visit the Mundelein Fire Station #1 at 1000 N. Midlothian Road in Mundelein today from 1-7pm.

If you are not able to donate today and still wish to participate, you may visit the Mundelein Lifesource location in the Jewel shopping center on Lake St. and use MN10 for the sponsor code.

Be sure to check back tomorrow for all the information on local parades and fireworks this fourth of July weekend. Or just receive Lake County Happens updates to your email.
